I've got to say, this is the proudest I've been of BET. Being from the Caribbean, it still is a struggle for me to identify as "black" because of its connotations and denotations. I do not know if it is a title that fits, because its meaning in the USA does not come closest to my self-identity. But if it is a matter of only skin color, then yes, I am Black and so at home in my own skin.
I love this program Black Girls Rock because I've noticed within myself the confidence and leadership abilities I have has faded, because I do not practice it. I did a photoshoot last year and my knees were shaking ... this from a girl who was Vice President of Student Government, Varsity Volleyball Captain, Wolmerian, Prom Queen, Fundraiser, Event Planner, Scholarship winner, and all around peer leader.
The Black Girls Rock program really inspires me. I am graduating from college with less confidence than I had going in ... there's something inherently wrong about that.
I just need to get back on that horse, be active, and grab every leadership opportunity.
No matter who says I can't or what says I cant.
I'm a Brilliant. Resilient. Persistent. Determined. Trailblazer. Phenomenal Woman!
