Over-priced, over-annoyed

Ahh ... I'm so annoyed.

My glasses are broken, I definitely need them for this semester, and so I went to the optometrist for a new exam, a new frame and new lens.

I paid $160 for a pair of eyewear by candies ... and it retails for $119.99! I went in hoping to get rimless or semi-rimless, but due to the type of lens need, my options were limited without spending a fortune and the sale frames were not appropriate for the lens I need.

I know they inflate the prices, but really? $40 over the retail price, and I can get it online for as low as $60. I'm gonna call them tomorrow and ask if it's possible to bring my own frames then I'll just buy it online ... I really need to save my money to help pay for my tuition .

The frames are cute, but they are plastic and so definitely not long term eyewear ... I graduate soon and I need to look professional so I would rather spend $160 on frames that are top notch and will last for years.

Have a look

Also, I confused my schedule and actually missed my first class. My stupidity today is rampant.

War brings Change - And so it Did

When I love a good thing I seem to take it all in at once.

And so with Downton Abbey. I just watched the last two episodes and I am so sad it's done! It's so beautiful, the house, the clothes, the way with words. I simultaneously love it and hate it, I supposed that's how some the aristocracy back then felt; it is all impossible without the servants, and so comfortable, yet why should there be servants? And why are some more deserving, birth? It's all nonsense. Ill-justified, addictive, cushy, nonsense.

Can you imagine a person who's been swallowed by a transparent glob monster, and imagine them pressing against the sides trying to get out. The tension, the back and forth, the getting little or nowhere of it all is what the atmosphere of Downton Abbey reminds me of, when they pause a millisecond too long, and you remember how the world is not really a period drama. Not an early 20th century one at least, or not for me.

I wonder if it is, still, for the Queen of England ... does she comb the hair on her titular head? And what does she think of it all?
I've never met her, but I have seen her ... though it was hard to do so through her bevy of police escorts.

I'm surprised at how manipulative sisters can be. I'm not fond of Edith but Mary really did her bad and should have known better. Somehow, every time she foils Edith, Matthew slips away. And Edith loses favor every time she plots and is vindictive. She is a middle child though, and so never holds the attention long enough. They are better off being friends.

Sybil is entirely about women's rights, I love that she is and that she is so indiscriminately. It would be crazy good if she did have a crush on Matthew, but I doubt it. I can't see her in a sisterly squabble, and I'd hate for Branson to have his heart so broken, especially when his uniform matches my new bag. [I still think of returning it for the Picasso if the thrift store takes returns but this does give me pause, and it is so intriguing.]

So until Autumn 2011 comes around, I'll only have re-runs and fond memories ... and hopefully that necklace.

Why One Should Not Go into a Thrift Store on a Rainy Day

(photo courtesy of my Blackberry, which, why in 2010 didn't come with flash?)

Everyone knows that when it's raining, and there's snow on the ground, and you're in NYC you want to find a way to entertain yourself.
Alors,
I braved the weather and headed to the baby doc avec ma soeur, and she surprised me by saying yes to a stop at the thrift shop. I went in hoping to get cheap furniture I could mimic HGTV on, and left with a buckle-less native american belt and a hunter-green velvet shoulder bag. The belt I just couldn't leave somehow, and got it for practically a steal at $2 (down from $25 because it had no buckle) and the bag was just intriguing ... yes, I paid $8 for intriguing.

So I pulled my hood up and trudged back to the car.
(Also, the lady in the store was so nice!)

I down-zipped my jacket, and felt like a sailor or a pirate who's found gold, or something gold plated. (A sometimes lasting symptom of thrift store euphoria.) And as I was smiling over my lovely belt and dreaming of spring time, I realized ... the part where the belt buckle should be snaps open! It wasn't a foolish purchase after all!
:) 2 years ago I found a vintage gucci belt similar to it, so I can just use the gucci buckle.

And it seems the bag is by paolo gucci ... from my wiki skills, he's gucci name but not gucci fame. Still, it was intriguing and that's why I bought it.

But perhaps it is an $8 lesson in sticking to your gut?

The first bag I picked up after scanning the section was a pretty black leather bag with gold chains, with an X on the front by Paloma Picasso. It was $10. Pretty, but more like a elegant dinner bag. I figured I'd never wear it.

but look ...

I found it on ebay, going for ... breathe now ... $209.00
I mean come on ... should a rainy day really end in buyers remorse?

Intriguing ...

A Dress to Suit all times

New idea! I lvee my prom dress

So there needs to be an occasion this year to wear it!

Either A) I make some crazy event up and wear it

Or B) I cut it and wear it to my graduation
(and make a flowy awesome goddess skirt out of the extra fabric, you know, waste not want not.)

here's an old photo I found in my email ...
I was a nokia lover ... but they had horrible picture quality in '07

Love it!

Weight Wait

So I think I'm gonna do a whole lot this year -- creativity wise.

I wanna make a grass rug with crochet, and make tons of deserts, and artsy crafty stuff ... found this picture on a newly discovered awesome blog ... and yes ... I don't mind gaining weight for you baby:

Upon reading that awesome blog i declared tiredly that I need more color in my life! And perhaps a spirit board ... miracle board ... dream board?

Je n'ai sais pas.

I found a great website to get my have-fun on.

The flying trapeze bit is exciting ... but I'm wait-listed, its sold out. I don't know what I'd do if I'd been wait-listed for college, sucky feeling #1 today.

... forgot what else I'd write. Too late at night.

Obviously, I Need a Camera

If you aren't tired of seeing me borrow pictures for my posts, then I am!

Also, I told myself I'd go to the gynecologist (1st time!) ... but I woke up late, stayed in bed, took a shower, didn't comb my hair, finished a scarf, couldn't find the number, now i'm hungry ... I'm pretty sure they'll be closed soon.

Yeah, they sound like excuses to me too.

MMM ... food time.

Transformation

Upon my rentre a la facebook ... I find myself ... yearning ... for that time in my life when a smile is not a physical emotion. When one can just look at me to know, in my heart, in my soul, in my breath, I smile ... I am happy.

The friend who I played on a volleyball team with, whose captainship was passed down to me, got married. In her photos are other friends, looking so different yet so similar, and so happy for her.

Another, who was not a friend so much, but a sister of a friend ... got married. Her brother, my friend, had gotten married too, a little bit earlier.

A face I know was in a frame on my former teacher's desk, we were on student government together ... she got married. I expected as much though ... she always was dedicated to finding a husband and starting a family, even though I met her when she was 16.

Friends with whom I played volleyball ... went to school ... grew up with ...

I see the amazing changes through their pictures and my memory ... such things as I'd never dreamed.

:) Can't wait to see mine
